and i share fully with others the love and care i have been given. and part of that is to acknowledge a clean date anniversary -- Congratulations on five years clean, Linda, it has been quite a journey for you, and i am grateful that you have persevered.
okay, back to the topic at hand, active listening, well i guess i have already missed the boat on this one today. i had a friend and sponsee call me this morning telling me about the motorcycle crash he was involved in last night, and although i did respond appropriately, and expressed my concern for his well-being, i probably missed what it was that he really wanted to talk about. i could give at least a hundred excuses, and even though most of them are true and accurate, they are just a justification for my behavior. so i will be making a call, to ensure there was nothing that i missed, or more accurately what i did miss.
so back on topic, i could go on and on about how i attempt to actively listen, but the truth is, these days, once i9 have made the judgment and placed another member into the loser bracket, i tune out everything after; " i am an addict named&hellip "
so the topic is more than germane to my current situation and set of behaviors. it is a skill i need to return to honing and shutting down the judge for a bit of time. who knows what i may be missing from those so-called losers. my recovery is far too precious for me to squander what i have, so as i move forward into this day, i will remember that there is a whole lot of stuff that i am missing because i am failing to listen actively, and with that in mind, let me see how much i can actually hear!

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge
Book 1
3) Always without desire we must be found,
If its deep mystery we would sound;
But if desire always within us be,
Its outer fringe is all that we shall see.
