as a recovering person, i can affect positive change by doing my best to practice the principles of the program. okay, so i get it, if i want peace in the world than i did need to live in a more peaceful manner. does that mean that if i want to see the end of poverty, i must live in an extravagant manner? well i actually know better, and that was my attempt at a bit of ironic humor this morning. what i am really thinking is how my contribution to the greater good of the world around me does come from me practicing my program. i can see how that does follow, if i am not creating drama and chaos in my little bit of the world, the world than has that much less chaos and drama within it and hence would be that much more peaceful. although all of that sounds wonderful and quite a bit of sunshine and light, the reality is that acting more peacefully does not make the violence that the evening news thrives upon go away. i am quite powerless over jihadists trying to enforce their will on the local population that has the misfortune to live there. what living the program seems to be for me at least, is to allow me to separate out what is my stuff from the stuff of everyone else. what does that mean? well unless i have the power to physically remove jihadists or stop them from doing their thing, then the best i can do is let it go. that does not mean i do not ignore what is happening in the world, it just means that i save what power i do have for those parts of the world and life that i do have the ability to change. acceptance is the path to serenity for me, i get that today, and separating out what is my stuff is part of that path also.
so what is my stuff today? well for one, getting off my a$$ and into the streets. for another, making sure i am at the meeting tonight to support a member of mt sponsorship family. and between now and then? live the principles the best that i can and let go of the results. i just may find that peace does follow those actions.
