α taking time to get my ego and my ideas out of the way ω

is what meditation is all about? an very interesting thought for this mid-morning blog. for some reason, events have conspired to keep from writing this at the crack of dawn lately. well not exactly the crack but much earlier than i have, but i guess that has been someone else’s will in action and not mine. which is a choppy but appropriate segue to the thought at hand. a brief surf through the morning news has made me think about what i get in that quiet time i put my ego and ideas aside. it is not very long and some days it is quite difficult to achieve anything at all, and yet i persevere because the feelings that arise out of those brief moments are unexplainable and help me to get through my day with a minimum of damaging behavior. so what are the exact benefits of my morning meditation? and what exactly do i "hear"? that is beyond the power of my language to describe, quantify or qualify. needless to say i could fall back on the clichés that i have heard before and repeated myself. but i will not go there, instead i will just say that i am grateful that i adopted this behavior, and that i am willing to do what it takes to practice it on a daily basis. life is far too busy and i am far too crazy for me to even consider halting this particular part of my morning routine. and the funniest thing is i may skip a prayer, a meeting, writing this blog or any one of the daily things i do, but i have yet to skip even a few minutes of this quiet contemplation and listening. i guess there are just some things i will not consider giving up today!
