my conscious contact, i have found it much easier to curb my excesses. as i sat this morning what came up was my desire to go into my Twitter timeline and kick some MAGAt ass. each and every time this rose to the surface, i took a breath and allowed myself the freedom to let it go, at least in that instant. after the third time, it did not bubble up to the surface again, as i “got” that the payoff for me was less than the price i would have to pay. i am no longer willing to, sacrifice who i am to prove a point or rip someone a new orifice through which they could defecate.
what i have found today, in my spiritual path, is that when i apply a bit of discipline, as in doing something consistently to the best of my ability, i get a whole lot more out of living than i realize. one of the ways i measure how spiritually “fit” i am, is by the number of times i am tempted to give another person the middle finger salute. for the past year or so, i have had myself on a “bird” diet which meant i allowed myself just one 🖕 per day, so i had to pick and choose my battles, as it were. nowadays, it seems like days upon days go by without me having the desire to salute one of my fellow travelers in such a manner. in fact i have to dig deep to figure out the last time i flipped someone or something off. does that mean that suddenly i am “recovered” or some sort of spiritual guru, not be a long shot. no, i see it meaning that i have has one of my “excesses” trimmed back because i decided that practicing a spiritual program and worked on being aware of what i was doing and feeling. this is not a “suddenly” thing either. this is a slow moving process that i paid little attention to, until i decided to peek at it and noticed how far i had moved. even though i seem to recover at what at times feels glacial in pace, the example above certainly proves that i am moving forward.
this week, i need to move forward on finishing up my Mom's estate, get back in the practice of my physical therapy exercises and start to apply some real effort to finding a new gig to pay my bills, as it seems that this one is ending. all of that is possible because i have the ways and means to look forward, move forward and make a plan or three without obsessing about the outcomes. at least that is the HOPE 🤞, just for today

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge
Book 2
3) Thus it is that dignity finds its (firm) root in its (previous)
meanness, and what is lofty finds its stability in the lowness (from
which it rises). Hence princes and kings call themselves 'Orphans,'
'Men of small virtue,' and as 'Carriages without a nave.' Is not this
an acknowledgment that in their considering themselves mean they see
the foundation of their dignity? So it is that in the enumeration
of the different parts of a carriage we do not come on what makes
it answer the ends of a carriage. They do not wish to show themselves
elegant-looking as jade, but (prefer) to be coarse-looking as an (ordinary)
stone.
