∞ my daily inventory does not have to be complicated to be effective. ∞

it is a very simple tool i can use to keep in daily touch with myself. and no i do not mean touch myself you dirty birds! although now that i think about it....
.... nah i have better ways of taking care of that.
anyhow, now that that i am done with that particular diversion on to the meat of what struck me the most in the reading this morning. i really like the simple list of questions the reading presents, it seems to be a well balanced list between positive and negative aspects of daily living and would be a good suggestion to follow.
my daily inventory is a bit more extensive because i have worked a tenth step and as a result found there were a few more areas that needed to be addressed for me personally. so what i take way from the reading is the importance of doing a daily inventory. i am really bad about spotting patterns of misbehavior and feelings unless i do a quick and thorough inventory periodically. for me, that needs to be done every night just as i lay down to go to sleep, since i am quite capable of feeling and acting-out right up to the minute i close my eyes and begin to fall asleep. it is important that i see these patterns so that i can talk to another addict, probably my sponsor, and find a manner of living that allows for these patterns to be broken in the case of acting-out or reinforced in the case of doing something that is good for me.
my daily inventory also provides a relief valve for me. one of the areas i look at every day is who am i going to bed angry at, and trust me that is a very important question, because i know anger swallowed by me, becomes a resentment and resentments are never a healthy bit of baggage for me to be carrying. i may not resolve my anger in that moment but it gets the process of looking at what is really going on with started and provides for a better night’s sleep. i have lost many nights to anger at someone or something that was not even there!
so is an inventory important for this addict? an unqualified yes is the answer to that question and i NEED to do it daily in whatever form is handy. after all i do want the chance to decide not to use again tomorrow!

Book 2

2) He (who knows it) will keep his mouth shut and close the portals
(of his nostrils). He will blunt his sharp points and unravel the
complications of things; he will attemper his brightness, and bring
himself into agreement with the obscurity (of others). This is called
'the Mysterious Agreement.'
