making plans not planning results
posted: Tue, Nov 9, 2004 05:36:02 AM
well this day is already off to a roaring start. i did not plan to oversleep by one and half hours and yet i did. my plan was to roll over and do an extra 15 minutes or at most 30 minutes and the result was 1.5 hours, so i already feel like i "cheated" myself out of part of my day. the truth is i did not cheat myself out of anything, if i look at what is happening all i did was move my day forward and apparently i needed the extra sleep.
today’s reading touched on one of the issues i have struggled with since getting clean, how can this be a "day at a time" program when we are supposed to make plans? how can i be in the HERE AND NOW when i am looking towards my future? the answer really has always been quite simple. even though this program may be about living in the here and now, there is nothing in any of our literature that says we cannot move forward with my life by making plans for the future. the caveat is that once i make the plan, i do my best to do the footwork to make it come about, then leave the results in the very capable care of a loving HIGHER POWER. so making plans involves a few spiritual principles, TRUST in GOD as i understand GOD to take care of me, WILLINGNESS to do the footwork i need to do, OPEN-MINDEDNESS to make changes to my plans as needed and most of all FAITH that i can move forward with my life and see the results of my plans and dreams as they happen. not much really, just an application of some of the basic principles i have been learning since i got clean.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge
Book 1
2) Therefore the sage holds in his embrace the one thing (of humility),
and manifests it to all the world. He is free from self- display,
and therefore he shines; from self-assertion, and therefore he is
distinguished; from self-boasting, and therefore his merit is acknowledged;
from self-complacency, and therefore he acquires superiority. It is
because he is thus free from striving that therefore no one in the
world is able to strive with him.
