more than once, that addicts in recovery differ in degree of sickness and rate of recovery, so it stands to reason that the types of awakenings one needs may be quite different, as well. i have often wondered, if i am sicker than most and if my rate of recovery is slower as a result, after all it took a decade and a half to find a a spiritual path worked for me. the fact of the matter is, i have had more than one spiritual awakening across the course of my recovery, some so tiny i missed them until way after the face, some so major, such as the one that revealed my spiritual path to me, that shook my world to the core. i do not go out of my way to seek out awakenings day by day, but i do my best to be present enough to see them in real-time.
it is interesting that two of them men i sponsor asked were upset by what one of our peers shared in a meeting the other day, i addressed that with both of them, but the other thing they asked me to do, was to help them connect with others. talk about the blind leading the blind! 🤪 i have always had trouble connecting with others and often refer to myself as a social retard, as i seemed to miss all those classes on how to socialize, when i was growing up. what the job has been doing for me, and yes this may be a spiritual awakening, is teaching me to be more social, as i try and provide the kind of service that they do not expect, above and beyond. speaking of work, i need to get ready to roll, just for today, i can be okay allowing myself to be present for what is going on inside of me and allowing that to be seen by those who may be looking for something more than just a glib, snarky reply.
