when i started service work representing my group at the area level i had six months clean and was hardly ready to serve at that level. not only did i not know a tradition if i tripped over it , and motives were something criminal lawyers and prosecutors talked about in court.
over the course of my recovery, my motives have mixed at best. prestige, recognition, avoidance of my step work, avoidance of forming a relationship and acceptance just scratch the surface, but i served to the best of my ability and did very little long-lasting harm, THANK GOD!
today i can honestly state that me motives for service are to carry the message to the addict who still suffers and to serve the fellowship that allowed me to be reborn into this world. i carefully consider accepting new service positions and move on allowing those who need the opportunity to feel and learn what i have. and no matter what the position is coffee maker for my home group or representing my region at world, i carry that passion through and do my best today to live up to the responsibilities entrusted to me. i value the opportunity to serve and as i grow i am sure i will discover within me whatever i need to serve selflessly and passionately, the fellowship that allows me to become who i will become.
