∞ the truth, wot truth? ∞

i used to believe that if a newcomer really saw how my life looked in recovery, that they would run from the room screaming, tearing out their hair. after all, what is the point of getting clean if nothing in their lives are going to change? and i know what i wanted most when i was getting clean was the hope that something, anything would change. well the members in the room at the time did not lie or blow smoke up my ass. they told me point-blank that the only thing that would change was me. and that was the truth, but as a result of the change within, my life did get better. for some reason, since i was no longer ducking the law to obtain my daily fix, the justice system left my life. since i was no longer spending my entire paycheck to get more, i actually has the resources to do other things, like clean-up my past due bills, and then collection agencies left my life. because i decided to work a step or two and learned to accept and love myself, i got to add others into my life who love and care for me. because i decided to open mind to the concept of the divine, i have the FAITH that no matter what happens, i will never be alone again. but most of all, because i chose to follow a suggestion or three, i have not had to use one day at a time since i collected that final white key tag.
absolutely amazing nothing really changed but everything did! and you know what? i am so grateful that i got a straight answer all those days ago and get to give that same answer today -- no matter what happens in my life, i do not have to use PERIOD! thanks to you guys and the program that saved my life.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 1

2) Therefore the sage holds in his embrace the one thing (of humility),
and manifests it to all the world. He is free from self- display,
and therefore he shines; from self-assertion, and therefore he is
distinguished; from self-boasting, and therefore his merit is acknowledged;
from self-complacency, and therefore he acquires superiority. It is
because he is thus free from striving that therefore no one in the
world is able to strive with him.
