principles to the work that is in front of me, which is accepting that i will be without a job in eight days and i do not know what is happening in my prostate gland. the former i have the ability to affect with footwork, which i am doing, on a daily basis, the latter is a waiting game that is driving me mad, as my medical providers and my insurance company work things out. in the meantime, i am practicing something i have always found to be quite difficult, living in FAITH. these days, even though i find the necessity to practice FAITH to be paramount in my daily living, it does not mean i find it all that acceptable, so i have to settle for tolerance.
as i sat at the meeting last night, hearing one of my peers saying that he found his situation untenable and was considering asking for medication to handle his “depression,” i had to wonder, whether i was carrying a message of HOPE that could break through his despair. regardless of what some of my peers believe, i am of the opinion, that addicts, especially those in recovery are over-medicated by well-meaning, but somewhat lazy medical providers, who seem to think a pill is the answer. let me clear about that last statement, i have seen more than one example of what happens to recovering addicts when they truly require medication, the latest one, died alone on the street at a bus stop, this winter. so i think there is a place for medication, in very limited cases, where actual mental illness exists. i am on my soap box however and time to bring it back home.
the peer in question was mind-fucking the shit out of himself and i get it, in his situation he has very little power and control and the lack of what may be coming down the pike can be overwhelming. been there, done that, got the T-shirt. in my case, well i will take the calls that may come in over the next days, wait until early next week before contacting the facility to get my MRI scheduled and complete the tasks at work, before kicking into training mode. life is far from perfect, but at least i can get out and enjoy this morning as i tour my local neighborhood and get some calories burned off. i am grateful that right here and right now, i have the ability and the desire to be fit: spiritually, physically and emotionally and will take the opportunities that i am provided to keep it that way.
