living in harmony with reality, whatever that reality just may be, in this moment. i struggle with those in my life who have gone the flat earth, chem trails and conspiracy theory rabbit holes. the fact that they are so adverse to reality and scientific facts, makes me sad. i want to slap them around and pour a shit ton of coffee down their throats, so they may be able to wake up to reality, rather than living in a world of alternate facts. with that being said, i have to look at my own perception of reality and see what i may believe is not only true, but probably made up in my own head to cushion the shock of the real world.
for me, i have no issue with the scientific method that says after further testing and verification, what was once the truth, is now false. theories are just that, ideas that require rigorous testing and sometimes, even after being accepted, get pitched in the bit bucket. what i tend not to believe are the You-Tube evangelists that say just because they think it is true, it must be fact. that same rigorous examination, applies to recovery as well. for me, and for me only, i have found the ideal combination of meetings, step work, daily maintenance and contact with my peers in recovery, that is allowing me to thrive, these days.
i have found that when i open my mind to the recovery theories that my peers may present me, from time to time, i some times see that perhaps i may be missing something. recovery, unlike science, is not based on hard and fast rules, save one: one cannot recover as long as one keeps using. unfortunately i am seeing this process starting to happen in some of the men that call me their sponse. my greatest fear for them, is that they will continue to spin down and get to a spot where the “FUCK ITs” take over and they decide that this recovery gig is not paying off.
my reality today? i am unemployed and seeking a job. i am clean and have been for a minute or so. one of my favorite T-shirts is fitting less tight than the last time i wore it. i sucked at running a 10K today and now i am feeling lazy. i KNOW that if i want a job, i may need to upgrade my skills a bit and that process starts on Tuesday. just for today, i am going to relax at home, play my computer game and let the world spin as it will. in the here and now, my reality is that i cannot get a job today and i certainly could use a real day off.

Tao Te Ching

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯

The Tao Teh King, or The Tao and Its Characteristics
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 1

2) We should blunt our sharp points, and unravel the complications
of things; we should attemper our brightness, and bring ourselves
into agreement with the obscurity of others. How pure and still the
Tao is, as if it would ever so continue!
