by another recovering addict. for that, i am grateful. The individual message i carry may help a newcomer only i can reach.
what the reading spoke to me about this morning was a different way of looking at what i have to contribute. i never thought, way back when, or even yesterday, that i have much to offer anyone. i have been stuck in a little funk created by self-will and the desire to do nothing at all. this morning things have changed on the inside, i am full of energy and ready to pound out a whole bunch of work before running away to San Antonio for a bit of a vacation and an event that will put me in contact with many new and old friends. and today i can offer a message of hope to anyone who asks.
do i believe that i carry the message of hope after active addiction, yes i do. coming from a gray place and back into the light is a good thing and one that is not to be taken lightly. so what i can offer my fellowship today? well for one, i can take care of (and have) a few commitments i made. i can also feel confident in what i have to share with those who happen to cross my path. what is that you may ask? well that if an addict like me, just a garden variety addict, with no hope of surviving past his fortieth birthday can find recovery and learn how to live a program, than any addict can too!
so i have a letter to write, web applications to build and a day of full of stuff to do. i am clean today. i am grateful that i was given the chance to recover, and i do not regret anything that has occurred in my life. those events that brought me to my knees were necessary for me to find a new manner of living. yes i hated the whole world back when i was incapable of living a single day without using. and yes i was an ungrateful wretch, and still can be from time to time. today however i am filled with the spirit of recovery and ready to face the world. so off i go into the wild blue yonder....
