😏 sound judgment 😏
posted: Tue, Aug 27, 2024 07:59:24 AM
WOW, what a concept! that is certainly something to achieve. i wish i could say that i always exercised sound judgement in my personal life, my work. life and of course in my service life. i do not know if writing this little ditty this morning is a sound decision, but what the heck, i am going for it. i had one of the worse commutes ever and i really was planning on doing a whole lot more this morning, including writing this, but time constraints may force this exercise to be a bit shorter than usual.
as i consider the difference between judgment and discernment, i certainly can go down all sorts of different rabbit holes. for me, these days anyhow, when i THINK i may have the answer, i have to pause and take a breath. most of the time, pausing lets me see if i am way off base or spot on. it is not always that simple and i have gotten into a whole lot of messes by not considering my spiritual and emotional fitness. as i come to fins mu=y place in the brave new world, i get a bit of relief from the worry and strife that often fills my head. politics has been distracting me lately and i really cannot wait for fantasy football to get rolling, so i can distract myself from my major distraction. i know what i see and hear is being filtered through the echo chamber i have created for myself on social media. unfortunately, for the most part, i can see that is not necessarily a bad thing. most of the opposition lives in a world of alternative facts and conspiracy theories. i do my best to look at their arguments to see if they have any merit and for the most part, i find that lacking. i have to make sure i am not falling into that same trap, as i am only human and if i hear a lie enough times, it takes on the patina of truth. been there, done that, got the T-shirt.
when it comes to recovery, however, i have to see the changes in the fellowship in a different light. sure, i may have come from a harder and sterner environment, but perhaps a kinder and gentler way is not all that bad, for those who are arriving today. i get caught up in the what was and fail to see that, maybe, just maybe, the newer way could be a bit more welcoming to those who are just getting started. my time this morning is up, so it is off to get a new computer and see if i can accomplish something today, as i set it up for work. i may not have this job in three months, but i am certainly going to do my best to be better at what i do, just for today.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge
Book 1
2) What is meant by speaking thus of favour and disgrace? Disgrace
is being in a low position (after the enjoyment of favour). The getting
that (favour) leads to the apprehension (of losing it), and the losing
it leads to the fear of (still greater calamity):--this is what is
meant by saying that favour and disgrace would seem equally to be
feared. And what is meant by saying that honour and great calamity
are to be (similarly) regarded as personal conditions? What makes
me liable to great calamity is my having the body (which I call myself);
if I had not the body, what great calamity could come to me?
