unexamined, anger, fear, shame, and resentment can bring out the worst in me. when one such as myself practices a daily inventory, every day, these little reminders from my source material, can sometimes come off as nagging reminders of what is already part of my life. then i realize that i am not the only addict in recovery who may be reading this source material and i have to correct my thinking and re-frame my complaint. sure, it is a bit of a nag to remind us all that daily inventories are certainly a good activity to do, every single day.
considering my daily TENTH STEP, is not a bad task for the here and now. i can say reminders in my source material certainly makes me look at how rote my inventory may have become. it is true, that daily practice does take some of the shine and spontaneity off my inventory. i may look the litany of evil with which i started this blog. i often, however, miss where i treated myself less than those who cross my path or are in my life. that is one of the areas in my life where i am consistently falling a bit short. it seems that no matter how aware i am, i slip into the “fuck me” mode with little or no forethought or consideration. that is the theme of this set of steps and that is what is making my sick and tired, these days. in fact i am almost sick and tired enough to start writing. almost! 🤣
as i prepare to go take one last medical test, i am grateful that i got to sleep in this morning. i got to run. i got to decide that taking this last test would free me from the worry about treating my prostate cancer. most of all, this day, is all about treating myself well and who knows what direction my activities this afternoon may take. when one is freed from active addiction and living a program of active recovery, there are tons of possibilities to fill the hours of my day and none of them include watching TV, just for today.
