∞ it is easy to step back from the procession of newcomers -- ∞

after all, i have seen so many people come and go.
as a result, i do find myself pulling back from the parade and watching to see who really is going to keep coming back. i understand that is members like me, who happen to have some time clean that can make the difference between a newcomer coming back and i often find myself weighing the risk to my emotional state before stepping up and welcoming those new members. the part of me i call my disease works a bit of overtime and i can hear the rationalizations and justifications flying right now. someone else will greet them, i am too busy to spend the time, i do not go to enough meetings, blah, blah, blah! so anyhow, what am i going to do today? well not a whole bunch, move on with my responsibility and do my work, call my sponsor and when i attend my next meeting remember that a hug and a welcomes can make the difference between someone who gets recovery and someone who just joins the newcomer parade.

Book 2
2) The difficulty in governing the people arises from their having
much knowledge. He who (tries to) govern a state by his wisdom is
a scourge to it; while he who does not (try to) do so is a blessing.
