๐ค the truth is ๐ค

not what changes, it is what i know about it and how i understand it, that changes. i started down the fake news and alternate facts path, before i hit the back button on my browser. when i was using, the world was full of fake news about me and i told just enough of the truth to present the alternate version of the facts. i understand that what i know as “truth,” just might be another lie i am telling myself. after all, for over five decades i told myself that i was too broken to be seen in public and that if i wanted to walk the streets, i would have to do so in dozens of personas and façades.
there is one truth i know for certain, i am an addict. i am not “addicted” to substances, things or behaviors, i am simply an addict. those substance, things and behaviors are manifestations of my addiction, whether i buy into the disease theory or not. as simple as that may sound, it took me a long time to see this as truth. quite honestly i liked the disease concept, as that kept the onus off of me, after all, i am sick not bad! 🤪 understanding and accepting that i am an addict and that addiction is a part of me, not an alien or outside force was a bitter pill to swallow. it meant that i was killing myself and i was responsible for how i behaved and the choices i made, in active addiction and in recovery. quite honestly, that little slice of the truth cut me deeply.
i could go on and on about the truth of being me, living in my skin and walking about in the post-modern world as an addict in recovery. those truths are as some wise men once said, self-evident. i know that s an addict, i see the world filtered through the part of me i label as addiction. i do not react to stimulus as those who are not addicts, tend to do. everything can be taken as an affront to me, obsy0tacles to be overcome or eliminated. it is after ll, all about me. my job is to remember that sad and compelling part of the truth and learn to live in a world e-where i choose a response, rather than plot actions as a reaction. life is only complicated when i make it so and today, i choose the easier, softer path of least resistance, live a program in the sunlight of the fact that i have an active program of recovery that i can use to guide me to the next correct action, even if it is doing nothing, just for today.
