so pulling back from that parade, feels like the safest thing for me to do. is safe necessarily what i am all about these days? there are days, when i feel safe is the route to go and others? well i remember when i was all bristly, angry and doing my best to disengage from the whole recovery gig. the members who were present way back then, kept telling to keep coming back, and seemed to really mean it. they gave me the chance to find my place in the fellowship, and did not exactly smother me with love. so as i watch from afar on some days, i ask myself if i am giving them space, or am i playing it safe?
it does hurt to get to know and like someone, only to have them go out, especially if they become one of those “frequent relapsers.” predicting who will stay and who will go, especially among the newest of our members, is an especially tricky proposition, so picking and choosing is not a very good option here. so i guess, if i go to the meeting tonight i will do what i can to be welcoming and warm, and see what a difference it makes.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge
Book 2
2) Therefore (to guard against this), the sage keeps the left-hand
portion of the record of the engagement, and does not insist on the
(speedy) fulfilment of it by the other party. (So), he who has the
attributes (of the Tao) regards (only) the conditions of the engagement,
while he who has not those attributes regards only the conditions
favourable to himself.
