prayer: it is not just for foxholes anymore
posted: Tue, Sep 21, 2004 04:42:51 AM

for me, prayer is a simple and effective manner to express my gratitude, ask for guidance or just reach out to whatever happens to be my Higher Power today. i use the power of prayer on at least a daily basis and it has helped me achieve some peace and serenity. prayer has been a part of my daily maintenance since i started this journey, although at that time i did not believe that i was doing anything but following the suggestion of my sponsor. i certainly did not believe that i could actually derive any benefit from such a process and merely went through the motions because i had agreed to do it.
i am grateful that belief has morphed over time to allow the freedom to choose to pray instead of just doing it. so i guess after a bit of practice it can become a vital and integral tool of my recovery.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 1

3) Always without desire we must be found,
If its deep mystery we would sound;
But if desire always within us be,
Its outer fringe is all that we shall see.
