๐ being a good ๐

steward of my body means accepting that it needs care and maintenance, after all it has lasted sixty-nine trips around the sun and i may not get another sixty-nine, but twenty-five or so, would be an excellent gift. i can honestly say that i have been slacking at this. my benign neglect of my teeth is going to cost me a shit ton of money. my over ambitious training has temporarily grounded me from running and possibly hiking. that is slowly being corrected and i will listen better to what my joints and soft tissue is trying to tell me, even before i get back in form. in general, however, i decided several years ago to do whatever i could to make my so-celled “golden years” enjoyable, active and yes memorable. that being said, i have been severely kicking my own ass for the past two weeks about my dental issues. as i get my step work done, i have FAITH that i will advocate better fro myself in the dental chair and although i am not at a little practice anymore, i happen to feel a partnership with my new dentist. she actually listened to what i wanted to do and made a treatment plan that fits my desire, no matter how expensive it may end up being.
this morning as i attempted three times to get off this topic, i finally accepted that something that was a bit more than coincidental may be happening and decided that this could and would be my topic today. this is none of topics that i want to say is part of my life and for the most part it is. i am no that retired guy that sits around smoking cigars watching old movies while whining about my declining health and disposable income. nor am i willing to be the old guy that loses his home and has to live in his car with his dog, because i refused to get over my bad self, move through my grief and do what i needed to do to save my home. for me that means it is up to me to be a better steward of myself: physically, emotionally, mentally and most importantly spiritually. if things go sideways, i may not be prepared financially, but if i have done my best to maintain my fitness, i will survive, perhaps even thrive.
as one who does not believe in predestination or some sort of plan and that shit just happens, most of it beyond my power and control, i can be a good steward of what i can control and where i have some power. i cannot stop my body for aging. i cannot recover from some of the damage i have done from the times when i was not a good steward, but if i pay attention i may not have the consequences that prevent me from enjoying a full and active life with decent health. i understand today that the choices i make will echo throughout the rest of my life and endeavor to make ones that advance my goal, rather than make it harder to achieve, just for today.
