because i had kept coming back, because i had kept working the steps, my perception had changed.
yes i realize that this reading is about changing my perceptions of the people with whom i share recovery, however the way i see it today, it is about changing my perceptions about everyone and everything. i was not a very tolerant individual when i was in active addiction, nor was i very tolerable either :). i still have a difficulty or two with being tolerant of others and the situations i find myself in. however as i continue to grow-up in recovery i find myself becoming less intolerant and more accepting of what is going on around me, and i cannot attribute that change to the world and the people in it changing to suit my sensibilities, DANG IT! so if they are not changing than who is? well the reading suggests that i am the one who is changing and that process affects my perceptions and reactions to the world around me. what is my part in that process? well for one thing, i need to keep doing the footwork that is in front of me, you know step work, working with my sponsees and my sponsor, going to meetings and not using no matter what! really not at all complex but dang right difficult, but so it goes.
so here i sit, on a beautiful day, working inside, because i chose not to do a whole lot of work during the week, and here i sit whining about the consequences of my choice :(. life goes on and as i grow i will also learn to tolerate myself as well as the rest of the world, life is after all far to short to walk through hating the world and all the people in it.
