a living 12th step
posted: Sun, Jul 25, 2004 08:17:58 AM

i like the idea that i am a living 12th step and that a 12th step cannot fail as long as the message is carried to another addict.
it eliminates all the self-worth and self-esteem garbage that i seem to drag through life with me.
it simplifies my identity in the program and gives me a single standard to follow:
am i demonstrating on a daily basis that the program works by staying clean no matter what?
of course there can be and for me is a whole lot more to LIVING THE PROGRAM, but when i strip off all the extra layers it boils down to that simple question.
so iguess with that as my guide i will go out and live another day.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 1

He who stands on his tiptoes does not stand firm; he who stretches
his legs does not walk (easily). (So), he who displays himself does
not shine; he who asserts his own views is not distinguished; he who
vaunts himself does not find his merit acknowledged; he who is self-
conceited has no superiority allowed to him. Such conditions, viewed
from the standpoint of the Tao, are like remnants of food, or a tumour
on the body, which all dislike. Hence those who pursue (the course)
of the Tao do not adopt and allow them.
