my butt in a seat at a meeting will not...
here is where the list of what going to meetings will and will not do for me, could be inserted, as suggested by my source material. to be honest, i attend one meeting regularly on a weekly basis. there are time when i choose to attend more and i can certainly say before the pandemic i was attending three or four meetings a week. i do not feel that the change in my pattern requires, excuses, rationalizations or justification, it just is a fact of my life. being consistent for me anyhow, started with attending meetings and has become a part of my life inside and outside the rooms.
once upon a time, when i was paid to start a fitness program, i understood that if i was not consistent in doing it, my fitness program may make my wallet a bit fatter, but would do little to make me less fat or more fit. i was never obese, but i was certainly moving towards an unhealthy weight and i was unable to walk a mile on a fairly flat surface in less than fifteen minutes. i certainly lacked the ability to summit a fourteen thousand foot mountain, much less Kilimanjaro. after my injury while training to scale that African landmark, i learned the value of doing my assigned physical therapy exercises and was able to make that trek. there were consequences, as i was far from fit enough to make the descent without injury, but once again, being consistent with exercise, has brought me back to a place where i may be able to start and finish a 10K race and do so in a decent amount of time. a side effect of this training program is a reduction in my weight and waist size. up next? well this summer i hope to return to the summit of one or more Fourteener.
writing this exercise, as facile as i may seem at times, certainly helps me get the stuff out of my head, that may make me sick. unlike the rooms, i share whatever hits my fancy, regardless of whether or not it is politically correct or even spiritual. this is my morning garbage can, although most mornings there is very little shit to dump. honestly, today i have no desire to use, i am grateful that i have found a new manner in which to live and that i have the ability to participate fully in my life. those meetings, way back when, is a huge factor in the life i have today, because i showed up on a consistent basis, i learned how to be present, for my life on a consistent basis as well, just for today.
