...of simple principles can produce profound effects in my life. the principle the reading speaks to specifically today is conscious contact through prayer. i have learned that asking for things in prayer is not the way to go for me. i have cut way back on such requests due to my experience of getting exactly what i asked for, rather than exactly what i needed. i have come to the conclusion that when it comes to knowing what i need, i am really the least knowledgeable person in that respect. so how than can i apply the prinicple of conscious contact if i do not know what i need? well, for one, i can and do pray for my mind to be open to what the will of a HIGHER POWER is today, and my heart to be open enough to have the courage to transform that knowledge into power. although this may sound foreign or weird, for me it works, as it reminds me where the power to sustain my recovery comes from, and that it is not something intrinsic in me.
but anyhow, i could go on and on, well actually i cannot, i lost my train of thought, and perhaps that is as it should be, i will go with the flow and move on to my next task this morning.
it is a wonderful day to decide that i want recovery, and not to be a slave to active addiction, so i believe i will take off and trot around the neighborhood with my dog, and if something more comes to me later, add a post script. so it is off to the races i go!

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 2

1) Or fame or life,
Which do you hold more dear?
Or life or wealth,
To which would you adhere?
Keep life and lose those other things;
Keep them and lose your life:--which brings
Sorrow and pain more near?
