as a result of finishing my THIRD STEP writing yesterday, i uncovered that i still want to blame others for my less than positive attitudes and the world around me. i want to be a victim not a volunteer for settling for second best and being “good enough.” part of what i was feeling the other day, when i was all sorts of jealous about my financially successful friend was exactly that. why could he succeed when i am stuck in the mud. the truth is, he worked very hard to build what he has and i have always did just enough to get by. it sucks uncovering the fact that my lack of success is a result o my attitudes and beliefs and not because of how i was brought up or a string of “bad luck.”
taking personal responsibility for my life, means that i move forward into today and do my best to succeed. while it may be nice to be good-looking, younger and richer, the reality is that i have to uncover the ways and means to be what i am without attempting to be what i am not. that old man who i see in the mirror every day, is the real me. he has worth. he has merit. he has the ways and means to make his life better, by choosing a path that leads to a happier, healthier and more fulfilled self, even if it does not swell my bank account overnight. as i move into today, i will remember that i volunteer to be miserable and am not a victim anymore, just for today.
